Pantomime 11-18 January 1997 All Saints Church Hall

Robinson Crusoe

Written and directed by John Desbottes

John Desbottes’s own pantomime, which he also produced, played from Saturday 11 to Saturday 18 January 1997 and billed on the cover as the club’s fiftieth year of post-war pantomime, with a list of every panto since The Tailor of Gloucester in 1947 on the back. Robinson sets out from the quayside on the pirate ship and comes through the galley, below decks and the top deck to the desert island, the cannibal village, Robinson’s stockade and the ruined temple, before the voyage home and the wedding. The main chorus came from the Shirley Bateman Stage School and two children’s troupes from Hilton Dance Studios.
