Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves

By David Apps & Gordon Drayson. Directed by David Apps

Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, written for the club by David Apps and Gordon Drayson, who also played Mish and Mash, and produced by David Apps, ran from 6 to 13 January 1996 with two children’s troupes taking turns. From the Market of Cannzibad and Fatima’s Boutique the story crosses the desert to the Cave of Jewels, the Sultan’s palace and the Dark Tower, with a song for Ali before the finale back at the Sultan’s Palace. Jan Farnfield made her SDC debut as Ali Baba, and Tim Payne, after many years behind the scenes, made his acting debut as the back end of Camelia the Camel.
