Puss in Boots - 2003

Synopsis

Arthur Miller has died leaving his widow, Maisy, and his three sons – Glenn, Max and Jack to inherit his worldly goods.

Max and Glenn conspire, with the help of the Ogre’s henchman, to defraud Maisy and Jack of their inheritance leaving Jack just Puss and Maisy with nothing except and old family heirloom – a rusty old key.  They have to leave the village.  Jack meets Miranda not knowing she is the Princess and Miranda arranges for Maisy to be the chatelaine at the palace so they don’t have to leave the village.

The Ogre, Gruesome, is tyrannising the land and the Fairy Aurora is determined to help the people escape from Gruesome’s clutches.  She casts a spell over the cat so he can walk and talk and help Jack fulfil his destiny.  Puss will pretend that Jack is the Marquis of Carabas

Puss arrives at the Palace bearing gifts and posing as the equerry of the mythical Marquis of Carabas.  The King is impressed by the supposed wealth and vast estates of the Marquis and agree that Miranda shall marry him.  Miranda is distraught as she is in love with Jack but Puss assures her that all is not what it seems.

The King visits the Marquis of Carabas but Puss meets them and tells them his clothes have been stolen whilst swimming so he is lent some clothes and is introduced to the royal couple and they return to the palace to celebrate the engagement and Miranda realises Jack and the Marquis are one and the same person.

To add to the complications, the Ogre wants the Princess as his bride so Gruesome forces Glenn and Max to kidnap her but failing to do so, Gruesome takes her to the Ogre himself.

Puss and Jack go to the Ogre’s castle to rescue Miranda and are followed by the King who believes the castle to be the Marquis’ and they are all confronted by the Ogre.  Puss however saves the day by tricking the Ogre into turning himself into various animals ending up as a mouse which Puss dispatches.  Aurora reveals that the castle did once belong to the Marquis of Carabas and the coat of arms is the same as on Maisy’s key.  This key opens the vaults and it is realised that the castle and the gold actually do belong to Jack and he is after all a Marquis and can marry Miranda.
